Authentic Movement

with Jan Sandman

Thursday mornings, January  12 through March 30, 2017

9:00-11:00 a.m. at The Clothespin Factory, 1 Granite St.                                                     Montpelier (next to the Iron Bridge)

The cost for this 12 week series is $240.00

Authentic Movement strives for the physical expression of truth in each passing moment, whatever that truth may be. With eyes closed, we find, explore and follow the eternally present impulse, expressing it through movement. By allowing our impulses to lead us, our movement begins to bridge the unconscious to the conscious. Authentic Movement embraces all levels of being from the sacred to the seeming profane, the important to the trivial, the humorous to the tragic, the joyous to the grieving. In practicing the form participants find, in addition to inner discovery, the possibility for a deep inner freedom that comes with true self-acceptance.

In this group, we will explore the essence of the form, the essence of ourselves, employing the mysterious energy of the winter to enter into places in ourselves that are both familiar and emerging. I would like to offer the space for those places to be moved, witnessed and integrated, with the focus being the treasures inside yourselves and between ourselves as a collective.

It is my experience that colors as vibration are a powerful vehicle for intention, prayer and exploration.  Silk as a medium holds this color vibration very effectively.  In this series, I will be from time to time bringing in the vibration of color as a possibility for movers to move with, through the medium of long stretches of silken color.

And so, we will focus on the basic elements of Authentic Movement: the mover and the witness, as well as going into subtle nuances of the form, bringing to it who we are now.

Time is a critical part of the boundary of the form, so please plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow for parking, taking care of the business aspects of the class and are ready to begin at 9:00. Wear comfortable clothing, with no sharp edges (to protect the mat). Take time to consider the concept and presence of your inner witness, the presence or intelligence inside of you that holds space for your life. For some people, it is helpful or illuminating to choose or create an object that personifies your experience of your inner witness. If you would find this to be helpful, please feel free to bring it with you. It could be something from nature, from home, something you find or create—anything that speaks to you of your present inner witness. You may want to have a journal with you as well.

The class is dependent upon sufficient number of participants. Please let me  know by January 1 of your intention to participate. The sooner you can let me know, the better as the groups are dependent upon sufficient participation. If you need to reach me for any reason, you can do so through email jansandman@comcast.net or by phoning 229-4671.  I look forward to beginning again,

Jan
