Upcoming Book Reading and Family Constellation Workshop

Dear Friends,
I have recently returned from a magnificent journey through the American Southwest,
spending time immersed in the vastness of the land, the saturation of prayer and reverence for life throughout the area. I am deeply grateful.
Two opportunities have arisen in May for me to read from my new book, White Stones, Bones and Mist:Authentic Movement and Living Prayer. One is on Thursday, May 25 from 7:00-8:30 at the Jaquith Public Library in Marshfield and the other is on Tuesday, May 30, at 7:00 pm at the TW Wood Art Gallery on 46 Barre Street in Montpelier. In both of these events, I will be sharing space with Patty Joslyn, who will read from her new book, Ru min ate: Meditations on Mystical Wisdoms. There will be books to buy if you so desire, or just come and listen. Refreshments will be served.

Also, There are a couple of spaces for representatives in the upcoming Family Constellation workshop on May 20 from 1:00-5:00. If you have tried this work, you know its effectiveness , beauty and power. If you haven’t tried it, but are interested, this is a great opportunity. So much benefit comes from this work for everyone involved at any level. Call me at 229-4671 to register or send me and email.

Dear Friends,

It feels so good to greet the Spring at last.  I will very soon be traveling to the Southwest, Four Corners area, a journey I have looked forward to for many years.  To be immersed in that sacred landscape, I am certain will bring many gifts.  I look forward to sharing them upon my return.  The Authentic Movement classes have mostly filled and will be beginning in May.  There may be some room in the Thursday class.  You can check with me if you are interested.  If you are interested in learning or participating in this form in the future, let me know and I will inform you when the next round begins.  My book, White Stones, Bones, and Mist: Authentic Movement and Living Prayer is on sale through Amazon.com or Createspace.  For local people I also have some copies available here.   On May 20, I will be offering a Family Constellation workshop from 1:00-5:00.  If you have ever thought about trying this work, it is a powerful and dynamic way of reconnecting, revealing and repairing inherited family dynamics.  The description can be found in the calendar events section of my website.

White Stones, Bones and Mist

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, February 19, 2017, the book I have been working on was published.  Just before the final approval, my editor, Sarla Vasiliki Matsumura and I said a prayer and I lit the candle that held watch and space over the writing of the book for all of these months.  White Stones, Bones, and Mist: Authentic Movement and Living Prayer is available now through Amazon.com and through Createspace. https://www.createspace.com/6470927    My hope is for the book to find its way into the hands and hearts of those who will benefit from it in some way.  Although it is centered on Authentic Movement, it will be of benefit to anyone who is concerned with embodying conscious living.  Writing and creating it has been a steadfast practice and joy. I offer gratitude to many people who participated in its creation, especially Sarla Matsumura, for her beautiful work in layout and editing, Elizabeth Anne Hin, for her abiding prayers and love, Barrie Fisher of Waitsfield, Vermont for her photographic skill and artistry, and the movers who volunteered to be photographed during a movement session. I hope you enjoy.

FAMILY CONSTELLATIONS

This is my great grandmother.  Gramma MacDonald.  Mary.  She was born on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.  I visited there several years ago and experienced the land where she was born and lived.  She moved from the island as a young woman and had her children in North America–Martha’s Vineyard and then Canada.  When I visited the island, I met a second cousin, who remarkably is the town historian.  He told me that she sent letters home to Scotland regularly  indicating  that she always longed for Scotland although she never returned.  You can see in this photo that she is knitting, smiling, with her bonnet on.  There is an open book in her lap which very likely is the family Bible, which I now have in my possession.  Its binding is completely disintegrating.  Do I have it rebound?  Or let the disintegration continue?  The beauty of something so deeply loved and consulted dissolving—like a fading flower.

Just as we inherit genes that determine eye color, height, body type, we also inherit the energy of our families.  What we do with that, how we stand with that is up to each of us.

Families are energy systems, among other things.  Family energy systems know and remember all that occurs.  Many of the things that occur are flowing and beautiful, no matter the family circumstance.  And some things are painful. Sometimes too painful, to be fully acknowledged and integrated into consciousness. Those events or dynamics are pushed away,  hidden in the deep shadows of the family field.  But they are not forgotten.

Subsequent generations sometimes can feel, sense, act out, live these unacknowledged events, emotions, dynamics without knowing  what is happening.  Family constellation work reveals the hidden energies so that they can be held in consciousness, accepted and integrated into the complex living matrix which is a family.    Not only are hidden difficulties revealed, but also hidden resources, hidden gems of wisdom, compassion, understanding.

My experience is if something exists in a family, then somehow the family has the energy or resource to hold it in consciousness , love, compassion and understanding.  It may be necessary to access deep ancestral roots to find this compassion, or it may be that through some members of the family, access to universal energies can  pour into the family field.

There is a workshop coming up on February 11 in the afternoon .  There is room to come as a representative if you would like to experience this work. Contact me through this website or through email at jansandman@comcast.net  It can be life changing in a good way.  I offer these workshops on a regular basis.  To be directly informed, subscribe to my website news and you will receive a notice when a new workshop is announced. family-constellations1

FAMILY CONSTELLATIONS

RESTORING THE ORDER OF LOVE

with Jan Sandman

A Way to Release Inherited Dynamics that underlie

Depression, Anxieties, Addictions,Lack of Joy

Saturday,  February 11, 2017    1:00-5:00

Family Constellations is an energetic remembering of the Family Soul.  Bert Hellinger, the originator, observed what he called the orders of love and the presence of the Family Soul.  According to biologist Rupert Sheldrake, the morphogenic field, a conscious field of energy connects all members of groups, families, nations. This field holds all of the memories and energetic patterns that have occurred: the remembered and the forgotten, the deeply cherished and the excluded.

In families, when a person has lost their place of belonging for any reason, it creates a disruption in the flow of love.  Miscarried or aborted children are often forgotten. An untimely or painful death, a suicide can exclude a family member. An alcoholic or drug dependent person is often excluded.  When there is a disruption in the flow of love, the resources that are part of the family do not flow, cannot be given.  This may show up one, two or more generations down the family line in an attempt to be remembered and integrated.  It can manifest through unexplained illness, depression, addiction, unhappy relationships.

In this work, the person whose constellation is being presented choses group members to step in as representatives for family members.  The representatives will often feel the emotions, sensations and conflicts of the people they are representing.  The facilitator works with the group to discover what has been hidden or blocked and to restore love and inclusiveness where it has been disrupted.  Through this process, a clearing, a new picture, and restored energy often emerge.

All participants benefit, both the representatives and the people presenting.  There will be time for 2  constellations.  Cost for the constellation is $125.00 and to be a representative is $35.00.  Preregistration is necessary. Call Jan Sandman 229-4671, or

The Year Begins

January 1, 2017

The year begins.  The sun rises wherever I am.  I look out and breathe deeply.  I look in and I breathe deeply. In my breath, I experience space; I return to this, breath after breath after breath.  In the eternal space, I feel the steady pulsing of life ongoing, unlimited grace and possibility.   I move with an ongoing conversation of all beings around me as best as i am able.  I follow the thread of that conversation as it takes me through my day.

I follow my conscience.  I do my best to manifest and put my precious and limited energy towards creating something good, beautiful, helpful, life sustaining.  All around and through me, I experience the interweaving of all things.  I am  in the flow of this New Year.  Wishing all beings everywhere a year of grace and beauty…expected and unexpected….12234874_1061766983854580_3489289864130302759_n

Authentic Movement Classes Beginning

December 27, 2016,

Dear Friends,

Two opportunities to learn and practice the form of Authentic Movement are happening.

I am offering a 12 week series beginning on Wednesday January 11 from 9:00-11:00 and another 12 week series beginning on Thursday, January 12 from 9:00-11:00.  Both are here in Montpelier.  Preregistration is required.

Authentic Movement is an intriguing deep practice that allows one to access  very deep parts of oneself and develop self compassion and compassion for others through the practice of witnessing and inner witnessing.  I am posting the flyers below.  Please contact me if you want more information or are interested in registering. jansandman@comcast.net

Authentic Movement

with Jan Sandman

Thursday mornings, January  12 through March 30, 2017

9:00-11:00 a.m. at The Clothespin Factory, 1 Granite St.                                                     Montpelier (next to the Iron Bridge)

The cost for this 12 week series is $240.00

Authentic Movement strives for the physical expression of truth in each passing moment, whatever that truth may be. With eyes closed, we find, explore and follow the eternally present impulse, expressing it through movement. By allowing our impulses to lead us, our movement begins to bridge the unconscious to the conscious. Authentic Movement embraces all levels of being from the sacred to the seeming profane, the important to the trivial, the humorous to the tragic, the joyous to the grieving. In practicing the form participants find, in addition to inner discovery, the possibility for a deep inner freedom that comes with true self-acceptance.

In this group, we will explore the essence of the form, the essence of ourselves, employing the mysterious energy of the winter to enter into places in ourselves that are both familiar and emerging. I would like to offer the space for those places to be moved, witnessed and integrated, with the focus being the treasures inside yourselves and between ourselves as a collective.

It is my experience that colors as vibration are a powerful vehicle for intention, prayer and exploration.  Silk as a medium holds this color vibration very effectively.  In this series, I will be from time to time bringing in the vibration of color as a possibility for movers to move with, through the medium of long stretches of silken color.

And so, we will focus on the basic elements of Authentic Movement: the mover and the witness, as well as going into subtle nuances of the form, bringing to it who we are now.

Time is a critical part of the boundary of the form, so please plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow for parking, taking care of the business aspects of the class and are ready to begin at 9:00. Wear comfortable clothing, with no sharp edges (to protect the mat). Take time to consider the concept and presence of your inner witness, the presence or intelligence inside of you that holds space for your life. For some people, it is helpful or illuminating to choose or create an object that personifies your experience of your inner witness. If you would find this to be helpful, please feel free to bring it with you. It could be something from nature, from home, something you find or create—anything that speaks to you of your present inner witness. You may want to have a journal with you as well.

The class is dependent upon sufficient number of participants. Please let me  know by January 1 of your intention to participate. The sooner you can let me know, the better as the groups are dependent upon sufficient participation. If you need to reach me for any reason, you can do so through email jansandman@comcast.net or by phoning 229-4671.  I look forward to beginning again,

Jan

Winter Solstice Gong Meditation

The Winter Solstice Gong Meditation has two openings. This will happen on Friday December 23 at 7:30-9:00 pm.  Space is limited and it is necessary to register with me in advance.  So if you are interested in coming, there are two places available which will be filled on a first come, first served basis.  This is a beautiful event I offer at the Solstice. I am posting the description below.  Contact me if interested at jansandman@comcast.net or through the website.

Winter Solstice Sacred Sound Gong Meditation with Jan Sandman

Friday, December 23, 2016  7:30-9:00

Please join me on this powerful evening, the time of the Winter Solstice, Friday, December 23, 2016 in the beauty of the transformative resonance of the Gong.  The gong is an ancient instrument whose sound and vibration penetrate deep into the body, heart, mind and spirit,  linking the finite with the infinite.  On this evening just after the Solstice, we will let the gong carry us to a place of deep relaxation, connection and harmony.

In the beginning, there will be an opportunity to silently set and mark your intention for this Solstice. There will then be a 10-15 minute movement circle where you can move with eyes closed if you choose to connect with your body.  If not, you can simply close your eyes and sit quietly. This will be followed by silence. During this time, the Gong will begin to sound. You will simply relax and receive, take in and be carried by the vibrations.  The Gong has an extreme range of sounds, from tiny and angelic to large and cathartic.  The sound itself will be working with you and the intentions you have set along with whatever the universe may have in mind for you. The exact time of the Solstice is on Wednesday December 21, however we are doing the ceremony just following this on the 23rd, during this potent time of  darkness as we situate ourselves in the  heart of the Solstice.

Please enter the space in Silence.  I suggest that you bring an object, like a crystal or a stone to place on the altar that will be bathed in the sound then go home with you, full of the vibration of the evening and any intention or prayer you are working with.

We will begin at 7:30 pm and I ask that people arrive by 7:25 to get settled. Please enter the room in Silence.  There are no chairs in the space, it is floor seating only.  You will be welcome to lie down.  Bring a cushion or a backjack if you need something like that for comfort.(Nothing sharp to protect the mats) The body often cools down in stillness of this sort, so feel welcome to bring a shawl, etc.

Cost is a sliding scale, suggested $10-25.  All proceeds will be donated to the White Rose Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which supports global peace and consciousness.   www.thewhiterose.org.  Registration is necessary as space is limited  and will be offered on a first come/first served basis. Please let me know if you plan to attend  by email or by phone. If you are unable or uninterested in attending,  you could let me know that as well so I will then spread the word to a wider circle.  jansandman@comcast.net or 229-4671, 522-5032

I hope to see you at the Solstice ceremony!
